Woo cleared 2.35 meters to win the men’s high jump at the World Athletics Diamond League Final 2023 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, USA, on Sunday (July 17).
The Diamond League Finals is a best-of-three championships, with the top six athletes qualifying based on ranking points from 13 events (including six high jump events). Woo earned 20 ranking points in four events and entered the final in fourth place.
Tokyo Olympic co-gold medalists No. 1 Mutaz Eta Barshim (Qatar) and No. 5 Jean-Marco Tamberi (Italy) did not compete.
Woo cleared the bar without a single miss until 2m33. Norbert Kowielski (POL) also cleared 2m33 in his first attempt, while Jubon Harrison (USA) succeeded in his third attempt. Woo Sang-hyuk cleared the bar in the third period, while Kowielski and Harrison failed.
The World Association of Athletics Federations says 2m35 is the Korean record, but as the Korean Athletics Federation combines indoor and outdoor records, the actual Korean record is 2m36, set by Woo indoors. The outdoor best is 2.35 meters.

Woo also passed the qualifying standard for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The standard for the Paris Games is 2.33 meters, which is valid from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.
