Tottenham players, including Son Heung-min, took a photo with a mural painted by an Australian fan.

Tottenham posted a photo on the club’s official social media accounts on Monday (Aug. 18) of players and coaching staff posing in front of a Tottenham mural in Australia.

Tottenham’s summer 2023 preseason tour is headed to Asia, with stops in Australia, Thailand, and Singapore. The first stop, Australia, arrived on July 16.

While training in Australia, the Spurs players heard about a mural that Australian fans had painted for Spurs, so they went as a group to take a picture.

When Tottenham Hotspur, one of the Premier League’s most iconic clubs, arrived in Australia, fans were excited. So one artist decided to welcome them with a mural. 안전놀이터

The mural features some of Tottenham’s most recognizable faces, including manager Angie Postecoglou, Brazilian striker Neymar, and Asia’s best soccer player, Son Heung-min.

With Postecoglou, an Australian, in the center and Heung-Min and Philippe Coutinho on either side, the artist even wrote Son’s nickname, “Sonny,” next to the picture of Heung-Min.

Below Postecoglou, the artist wrote Tottenham’s club motto, “To Dare Is To Do,” proving that he is an unapologetic Spurs fan.

It’s a testament to Son’s stature that he’s so prominently featured in a mural with only three other players.

He has long been categorized as one of the Premier League’s top strikers, and in the 2021/22 season, he became the first Asian player to lead the Premier League in goals, scoring 23 goals in the league alone.

The Australian fans welcomed Son as one of the best players in the world beyond his native Asia, and he responded in kind with fan service.

With open training sessions, many local fans traveled to the stadium to watch the Tottenham players, and Son’s fans handwrote “Son Heung-min 7, I love you” in Korean.

Others brought him dolls and even Korean flags, and he smiled and waved and signed autographs for those who went out of their way to see him.

After making memories with the Australian fans, Heung-min will soon play his first friendly of the preseason. Tottenham will face fellow Premier League club West Ham United in Perth, Australia, on Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. ET.

Son had a disappointing year last season, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 10 goals and five assists, so it will be interesting to see how he performs in the friendlies ahead of the new season as he looks to redeem himself next season.
