Hyun-jin Ryu, 36, of Toronto, is ready to make his big league debut, and he has an opponent. It’s Baltimore’s second-year right-hander, Kyle Bradish, 27. 꽁머니사이트
According to Major League Baseball’s website MLB.com on Wednesday, Ryu and Brady were announced as the starting pitchers for the game between Toronto and Baltimore on April 2 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It’s a big comeback for Ryu, who will be on the mound 14 months after undergoing elbow ligament splicing surgery in June last year.
Baltimore leads the American League in winning percentage (.610) with 64 wins and 41 losses through 31 games. They are leading the East thanks to their young pitching staff. Ryu’s opposite number, Brady Seager, is also a Baltimore rookie. He made his big league debut in 2022 and went 4-7 with a 4.90 ERA, but this season he’s already picked up six wins and lowered his ERA to 3.29.
His recent pace has been good, too. In his four July starts, all of which went six innings or more, he posted a 2.25 ERA (8 runs in 32 innings). He’s also pitched impressively against Toronto once this year. On June 15, he pitched seven innings of four-hit ball and one run, but he didn’t get much support from his offense, giving up a solo home run to George Springer to take the loss.
The Baltimore offense is also strong. There are five players with double-digit home runs and three with nine. There are seven players with 40 or more RBIs.
The two hitters to watch out for are Adley Rutherford and Anthony Santander. Lurchman is batting .272 with 14 home runs and 47 RBIs, while Santander is batting .256 with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs. Both are switch hitters, which makes it even trickier. In addition to Santander, you’ll also have to watch out for Austin Hays, who has one home run off of Ryu in 2021.
Ryu has faced Baltimore nine times in his career, collecting five wins (one loss), but he has a high ERA of 4.35 (24 earned runs in 49.2 innings). He won’t face them in 2022, and went 4-1 with a 5.12 ERA in six starts in 2021.
