NC hits a rocky patch on its way to a mid-table finish. Three outfielders were injured during a three-game weekend series. They are the mainstays of the team in both offense and defense.
Left fielder Kwon Hee-dong, center fielder Jason Martin, and right fielder Park Gun-woo went down on the first three days. Kwon Hee-dong hit a single in the top of the first inning against Samsung Electronics and was immediately replaced by Martin in the defensive inning. He felt pain in his wrist during the at-bat. Martin also left the game. He was hit in the right elbow by a 132-kilometer-per-hour slider from Samsung’s No Gun-woo in the top of the seventh inning and was replaced by a pinch-hitter.
Kwon Hee-dong and Martin were not able to play against Samsung for two or three days. Kwon played one at-bat as a pinch-hitter for Samsung on Day 2. Martin was given a full day off. “Martin’s elbow is swollen a lot and he can’t swing normally. It’s hard for him to pinch-hit.” 바카라사이트
In the first three games without Kwon and Martin, NC also lost Park Gun-woo. He was replaced at the start of the second inning due to a right hamstring strain. He broke it while running the bases in the previous inning.
Playing without their main outfield, NC lost the game 1-6. They managed just one run in 6.2 innings against Samsung starter David Buchanan, and were held without a hit by Woo Kyu-min and Oh Seung-hwan.
Moving forward. Starting on the 5th, NC will face Kiwoom and Lotte at home in Changwon. They will play a three-game series against Kiwoom on May 5-7 and a four-game series against Lotte, including a doubleheader, on May 6-8. As they face two bottom teams back-to-back at home, they will need to get as many wins as possible. NC lost to Samsung Electronics on April 4, dropping them to fourth place behind KIA. NC has also done well in their last 10 games, going 6-4, but KIA’s eight-game winning streak has been too much for them. It’s a week where they’ll have to play for more than fourth place.
Manager Kang Myung-hyun confirmed ace Eric Peddie as the starter against Kiwoom on the 5th, signaling a total war. Peddy will take the mound for the first time in four days after suffering his worst outing since joining the KBO with seven runs in three innings against KIA on March 31. This will be Pedi’s first start after four days of rest.
If the outfield trio doesn’t return to form, the ‘fateful week’ will be tough. Martin, Park, and Kwon have combined for 80 home runs and 167 RBIs this season. They accounted for 36.3% of the team’s 80 home runs and 33.5% of its 498 RBIs.
